London

This weekend I visited a friend of mine studying business English in London and while I was there I did some (though pretty minor) shopping as well as quite a bit of sightseeing and bar/pub-hopping. I arrived early on Thursday, 8 am or so I believe, and got to my hotel around 11 after taking the train from Stansted to Liverpool Street Station and a taxi from there (wasn’t too keen on going on the Underground with a suitcase in hand). The hotel was nice enough, I stayed at Ibis Euston and honestly I was mainly just concerned with having my own bathroom, the fact that I had a TV too was pretty nice though.

I met up with a few friends later that night after looking around the neighbourhood my hotel was located in and we first went to a bar with live blues music. Aside from my friend and her roommate I also met another friend of mine and her boyfriend. We had a few drinks (it was 2 for 1 for cocktails :P ) and chatted for awhile until we began getting sleepy from the music around 11-ish and decided to go somewhere with a bit more energy to it. We ended up going to Tiger Tiger where I had a cider and ended up dancing. Didn’t expect the latter to happen, but had a ton of fun and it was sometime past 3 am that I finally found myself outside my hotel asking for the reception to let me in.

Friday was a bit more quiet as my friend and her roommate had school the next day starting at 9 am, but we did go to Sticky Fingers and had a celebratory dinner in honor of my friend who turned 21 on Saturday. Ate a very awesome hamburger and decided to forgo drinks and wine in favor of having a coke instead. Spent the hours before the dinner browsing bookstores and wandering around London, pretty much tiring myself out so when I got back around half past midnight I went straight to bed.

I was supposed to do a bit of clothes shopping on Saturday but I was feeling pretty sleepy and my books were too alluring so I ended up taking a quick trip to Sainsbury’s to get some food and dinner and holing up in my hotel room until it was time to meet my friend and her roommate at 8 pm. By then my other friend and her boyfriend had left for Brigthon so the three of us went to Tiger Tiger were we ate dinner (the chicken burger with bacon is delicious!) and in my case had some wine (coke for one and beer and wine for the other) before heading out on the dancefloor. Wore heels this time and boy did I feel it the day after. Also danced a LOT more than the previous night and discovered that my ass = apparently some bizarre petting-zoo animal.

Spring Fever

Lately I’ve really started to feel that Spring has finally come to Norway, even if we are occasionally given snowstorms and occasionally wake up to ice that make you wonder about putting on your ice-skates before heading outside. Still, there are birds chirping in the plum-tree outside (at 5 am, but that’s another thing), there are tons of people with strollers (who then proceed to walk in the middle of the sidewalk making it impossible to walk around them), the ice is melting (and forming huge puddles at the side of the streets that the cars drive straight into resulting in a huge SPLASH before you’re covered in said puddle), there are cute baby animals like puppies to be seen (there’s nothing bad with puppies, whatever they do they do because they’re too young to know better and because they haven’t been trained not to yet).

However Spring also brings something less wonderful with it, and no, I’m not talking about hay-fever though I’m certain that’s more than annoying and disruptive for the poor souls who have it. I’m talking about the ever wonderful and extremely annoying spring-fever. Now according to the dictionary at reference.com Spring fever is this:

spring fever
–noun
a listless, lazy, or restless feeling commonly associated with the beginning of spring.

To me, it is this:

spring fever
–noun
Something that occurs at the beginning of each April each year and nearly drives me up the wall as it slowly works to drive me utterly insane. I turn into a boy-crazy lunatic and my mind takes up permanent residence in the gutter where it’ll remain until snow begins to fall again. It also causes unpleasant “flutters”, makes me extremely giggly and make me turn after nearly every member of the opposite sex near or around my own age.
